چکیده

The spin structure of the nucleon in the resonance region is of particular interest to understand the rapid transition from resonance dominated coherent processes to incoherent processes of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) off the constituents. Here we present the results of the recently developed unitary isobar model (MAID) for the spin asymmetries, structure functions and relevant sum rules in the resonance region. This model describes the presently available data for single-pion photoand electroproduction up to a total cm energy Wmax = 2 GeV and for Q 2 ≤ 4 (GeV/c). It is based on effective Lagrangians for Born terms and vector meson exchange (background) and resonance contributions modeled by Breit-Wigner functions. All major resonances below W = 1700 MeV are included. The respective multipoles are constructed in a gauge-invariant and unitary way for each partial wave. The eta production is included in a similar way, while the contribution of more-pion and higher channels is modeled by comparison with the total cross sections and simple phenomenological assumptions.

The Spin Structure of the Nucleon in the Resonance Region

The electromagnetic transition strengths for (1232) excitation, predicted in the 80's in the framework of chiral bag models, are now known with great precision. The two helicity amplitudes of this particular transition are part of the more general quest to understand the spin structure of the nucleon in the resonance region and its connections with the quark spin distributions via sum rules. Wh...

HELICITY AND PLANAR AMPLITUDES IN PION-PROTON SCATTERING AT 6.0 GeV/c

In addition to optimal conditions, invariant laws of Lorentz, parity and time reversal are imposed to find the relation between observables (spin rotation parameters) and bilinear combination of helicity amplitudes in pion-proton elastic scattering at 6.0 GeV/c. By normalizing the differential cross-section to unity, the magnitudes of helicity amplitudes and the angle between them are dete...

Resonance Structure and Polarizability of the Nucleon

The main features of the resonance structure of the nucleon are discussed, particular with regard to the helicity dependence of real and virtual photoabsorption. The dependence of the partial cross sections on both the resonance helicity amplitudes and the electromagnetic multipoles is outlined. The general structure of the Compton tensor is reviewed and applied to the special cases of real to ...

Radial Excited States of the Nucleon in Quark Models with Dynamical Confinement

The P11(1440) (Roper) resonance 1 is the lowest positive-parity N state, most clearly visible in partial-wave decompositions of πN → πN and πN → ππN scattering, as well as in pion photoproduction. Although this four-star resonance is within the energy reach of many modern research facilities, the experimental analyses so far have not ventured beyond the determination of its mass, width, and ele...

Helicity Amplitudes and Electromagnetic Decays of Strange Baryon Resonances

We present results for the helicity amplitudes of the lowest-lying hyperon resonances Y , computed within the framework of the Bonn constituent-quark model, which is based on the Bethe-Salpeter approach 1,2,3. The seven parameters entering the model are fitted against the best known baryon masses 4. Accordingly, the results for the helicity amplitudes are genuine predictions. Some hyperon reson...
